The Hidden Cost of Owning Every Stock: $167,050 of a $500,000 VTI Position Sits in Its Top Ten Names A fund owning thousands of stocks sounds like true diversification, but the math behind a $500,000 VTI position tells a more uncomfortable story about where your money actually goes.

If I Were in My 30s, I'd Buy This Magnificent ETF and Hold It for the Next 30 Years When investing for several decades, look for funds that combine broad diversification, low fees, and a strong track record. The Vanguard Morningstar Total Stock Market ETF (VTI) checks those boxes and invests in the entire investable U.S. equity universe.

VTI is up almost 1,500% total 17% annualized returns since the bottom in 2009, which is when I think the bull market started, some people disagree with me, I don't care. That's when it started. Aftet a decade of active trading I have 5M to put into passive funds. Sort of want to leave the day trading life behind now I'm in my late 30s. I was thinking 2M VTI / 2M VGT / 500k UPRO / 500k TQQQ. My reasoning is the levered etfs let me feel like I'm still gambling and beating the market which scratches a big itch for me, and if they underperform who cares because I've still got 4M earning that sweet more or less guaranteed 8-10% annually.
